Well prepared steaks do not need steak sauce.

I suspect if you post this question in the burger forum you may find it, as that is where steak sauce is more useful.
I have yet to meet the steak that didn't benefit from sauce.
Remember burgers are just ground steak.
This is just my personal opinion, but I would have to say that, if you "have yet to meet the steak that didn't benefit from sauce," then you have yet to meet a top quality, well-seasoned steak. I was always told that steak sauce is for lesser quality meats. In my family, we were told from childhood that if we wanted steak sauce or ketchup with our meat, we could eat hamburgers and hot dogs until we grew up enough to appreciate a good steak without ruining it. So, different strokes for different folks, I guess...
I also think that a good steak don't need sauce. I do know alot of people that automatically put something on everything they eat e.g. steak sauce, ketchup, whatever. I did work in a steak house that made its own sauce. I only remember the wierd golden currants and anchovies in it. It tasted alot like A-1.

As far as homemade BBQ sauce I just buy the cheap stuff at Big Lots or Dollar General and doctor it up. I learned that from a competitiom BBQ cook. I am not big on making the same way every time. I just trow a little this a little that.

I also worked in a messican restaurant so I make a killer salsa.
Thanks for the replies...I will learn someday I suppose. LOL

That makes sence, anchovies are in a  lot of dressings includeing A1 sauce. So are dried fruits. Many BBQ sauces and chilis have prunes as an ingredient which is very similar to a raisin. one time i made the most delicious chicken with a beer and plum sauce =)

watching one of the cooking networks I saw a peppercorn sauce made with peppercorns, cream, and pan drippings for a steak...maybe I will go that route.
