I am experimenting with apple smoked ribs.
I have the ribs marinating in applejuice/water over nite. I have not yet planned on what to use as a rub. Is there any kind of Fruity and spicey rub out there.
When the ribs are rubbed and ready for the liquid smoker, i will burn apple wood chips and put applejuice, apples and water in the steamer.
They cook for 3 hours and then go on the grill ,then i will apply generous amounts of Jack Daniel original sauce.
I call them AppleJack Ribs.
I just need some advice for a rub. I will post pics of my experiment.
Cheers!

hey!!!! i love cooking chicken like this and i grill baked apples with it and make that sauce to pour over it..... i also love using apple butter on my ribs and i mix apple butter into hamburgers and sausage patties and grill great flavor and very moist... lately i have been using this new rub i found at the butchers its called rocky mountain meat and fish rub its by r.l. schreiber.... its 3.2 oz and cost $3.49 it contains coffee, cocoa, and chiles. its new to me but i have been loving it!!!! theres a # 1-800-624-8777 check it out..... enjoy!!!
it depending on how intense the apple flavor is, the stronger the apple flavor the bolder the rub can be. for instance a bolder apple taste could hold up to ole bay seasoning w/ cumin, thyme and a little smoked paprika or a light apple flavor may only need a little cumin, coriander, cinnomom b. sugar and hungarian paprika. think of your favorite apple spice combinations and experiment with those, in most cases with homemade rubs, less is more, which will help layer the flavors for a more interesting experience and flavor profile
Hey Pat. What you've got planned so far sounds pretty delicious, and I'm looking forward to seeing those pics. Here are a couple pointers for a rub to use... you can use whichever brings the ribs in the direction you'd like. If you're looking to give them a Far East flavor, try salt, white pepper, mustard powder, garlic powder, lemon grass, 1 freshly ground star anise and a lot of orange zest. Or if you'd like to keep it North America, you can try salt, freshly ground black pepper, garlic powder, a lot of lime zest and your choice of chili powder (i.e., ancho, chipotle, pasilla or Southwestern blend). Good luck!
